On March 30, 2011, VizThink NYC & BigBlueGumball put on quite a workshop at Liquidnet in NYC.
THE POWER OF VISUAL COMMUNICATION.
MJ Broadbent introduced an engaging presentation by Steve & Todd Cherches, who took us on a two-hour journey that challenged our visual interpretations, visual communication styles, and was just downright fun. These guys are full of energy and know how to push those visual buttons.
They tested our ‘Vizprovisation’ skills. One at a time, we stood to represent “SMACME” – a fictional company going through some change. A presentation that consisted of powerful images was put on and in 20 seconds each we presented to our ‘company’ using the many images. In all literal meaning, it was quite the ‘interesting’ presentation as we each attempted to rationalize the image amongst business buzzwords.
We played VizBiz Pictionary & talked of metaphors.

Todd & Steve took us on a journey, culminating with a visual capture/graphic recording session of the entire MLK speech via SIX MINUTES (a speaking & presentation skills blog) – where each of us created our own capture on our own 11×17 piece of paper. The experience of listening to King’s words and listening specifically for his imagery was something that has been on my to-do list for a while, so I welcomed the experience. My capture is below – I welcome any comments!
I couldn’t help but think of Nancy Duarte’s book ‘Resonate’ where she takes a REALLY close look at this speech. Fascinating!
